Where to sail in the Kvarner region

Kvarner is the name of the large northern Adriatic bay, between the eastern coast of the Istrian Peninsula and Mt. Velebit, and includes several large and many smaller islands. The larger islands are Krk, Cres, Lošinj, Rab and Pag, which are similar in many characteristics, though vary in their essence. The gentle beauty of Krk, the steep cliffs of Cres, the liveliness of Lošinj, the diversity of Rab and the rough landscape of Pag reveal the hidden soul of each island, enrapturing and revealing the unbelievable pleasure that they graciously share with visitors.

These large islands of Kvarner Bay, distributed in a circle, create an internal sea area known as Kvarnerić. This area abounds is many interesting places worth visiting, including beautiful bays, hidden beaches, lovely towns and modern marinas. The distances between the sites are ideal for single-day boating excursions in the favourable weather conditions that dominate in summer.

With the diversity of nature and the many hidden coves, century old towns and harbours, one should not miss visiting the small but special islands, such as Unije, Susak and Ilovik, the sandy beaches and Old Town of Rab, the medicinal nature of Lošinj, the magical stone town of Lubenica on Cres, and much more. While sailing through the waters of Kvarner Bay, there is a good likelihood of seeing dolphins, one of the rare mammals that permanently inhabit the Adriatic. You might just come across a Mediterranean monk seal.

Mali Lošinj is the largest town on the Adriatic islands, and is one of the most attractive tourism destinations in Kvarner Bay, due to the magnificent natural surroundings. Nearby there are numerous beautiful coves, anchoring areas and islets, and so choosing the right one for an ideal day of swimming and relaxation might be a difficult task! The small islands of Ilovik, Susak and Unije are beautiful, while the coves Krivica, Balvanida or Artatore are also enticing. The deeply indented southern coast of Cres, known as Punta Križa, is not far away.

Rab is another popular tourism destination that reveals a great deal along its highly indented coastline, particularly the magical hidden coves on the Kalifront Peninsula, and the attractive long sandy beaches near Lopar. Numerous lovely coves can only be accessed by boat, while the surrounding archipelago offers countless destinations also worth visiting: the islands of Krk, Cres, Lošinj and Pag are just a few miles away.
